TARGET AUDIENCE
Clinical Viewpoints Uncontrolled Gout activities are designed for healthcare professionals who are involved in the clinical care of patients with gout. This may include physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this enduring material, participants should be able to:
- Describe the pathophysiologic mechanisms that drive systemic inflammation in gout, including IL-1β activation and NLRP3 involvement, and their clinical implications.
- Identify when and how to escalate urate-lowering therapy in accordance with current gout treatment guidelines, including treat-to-target and treat-to-dissolve strategies.
- Explain mechanisms, evidence, and clinical role of emerging therapies for refractory gout, including novel immune-modulating biologic combinations, URAT1 inhibitors, and xanthine oxidase inhibitors.
