Case-based Treatment Strategies in Patients with Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenia
Certified CME/CNE Activity
Treatment choices for chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) are complicated by the heterogeneity of the disease and the inability not only to diagnose it but also to objectively predict patient responses to treatment and outcomes. With lack of head-to-head clinical trial comparisons to guide therapeutic options and sequencing of treatment strategies, as well as the development of emerging agents, expert opinion is critical in guiding clinical decision-making. Furthermore, ITP in the elderly and pregnant patient poses considerable challenges, so specific individualized management strategies ideally should be considered to optimize outcomes.

Using patient case studies, James Bussel, MD and Hanny Al-Samkari, MD discuss real-life management of patients with chronic ITP.
